Impacting the Next Generation: Celebrating Our Interns
The jump from the classroom to a career can be a big one. At MTech, our internship program is designed to help students make that transition by giving them more than a glimpse into the construction industry. We give them the opportunity to truly be a part of the team.
Though our program has existed for longer, just in the past 10 years, MTech has welcomed 39 project engineer interns, primarily from construction management, architectural engineering and mechanical engineering programs across the country. Rather than spending the summer observing from the sidelines, interns experience what life as a full-time project engineer actually looks like, rotating through Engineering and Operations to better understand how a project comes together from design through construction.
For our 2026 interns, that meant getting directly involved in projects across MTech. Ask our interns what has stood out most, and the answer often isn’t a particular task or project. It’s the people.
“One thing I’ve learned this summer is that no two days are the same. I’ve been fully integrated into the team, assisting on real projects and learning through hands-on experience every day. There’s always something new to tackle, and that’s what makes this job so rewarding.”
“I’ve enjoyed working with people who care about my knowledge and make learning fun. Whether I was in the office or out in the field, people took the time to teach me, answer my questions, and make me feel like I belonged. It’s made every day a chance to learn and grow.”
“This internship has shown me that great projects are built by great teams. I’ve learned something new every day while helping with a variety of project tasks, but the relationships I’ve built and the supportive culture have been the most rewarding part of the experience.”
“My favorite part was seeing how everything comes together in the field. Walking the jobsite, inspecting equipment, and working with different teams has helped me connect what I learned in the classroom to real equipment and drawings.”
Being part of the team doesn’t end when summer does. Several current MTech team members first came through our doors as interns.
“I truly felt valued as an employee and not just an intern from everyone I interacted with. MTech has created a unique culture and blueprint for success that very few companies can replicate.”
“Getting to see how we manage projects as well as how our field team builds projects and how the insights from those aspects influence how our engineers design projects was a great introduction to the industry and an awesome learning opportunity.”
“Many of the relationships I built at MTech were long-lasting. They were the reason I chose to apply for a full-time position and since then, they’ve continued to grow.”
“One of the biggest reasons I wanted to come back was for the company culture. Enjoying the environment and the people around me made coming back full time an easy decision.”
“MTech allows people to follow their own path and add value with their own strengths. Due to the broad nature of problems mechanical contractors solve, MTech provides a great array of lessons for any young engineer.”
