Shaping Excellence: MTech Earns Excellence in Construction Award from ABC
MTech Mechanical is proud to announce work on the Anythink Nature Library project in Thornton, Colorado, has earned an Excellence in Construction Award from the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Rocky Mountain Chapter in the category Specialty Contractor: Mechanical: Commercial: All Projects $2 to $10 Million.
The annual awards recognize outstanding achievements in construction, celebrating projects that demonstrate exceptional craftsmanship, innovation, quality, and a commitment to safety.
A Library Unlike Any Other
As the nation’s first nature library, Anythink Nature Library was designed to connect visitors with nature, education, and one another. Located on a 15-acre site surrounded by open space, the 33,000-square-foot facility blends traditional library resources with interactive learning spaces, gardens, outdoor recreation, and sustainable building features.
Working alongside GH Phipps, WSP, and Davis Partnership Architects, MTech delivered mechanical and plumbing systems designed to support the library’s ambitious sustainability goals while integrating seamlessly into its unique architecture.
The project features an all-electric geothermal heating and cooling system, custom air distribution, and an interactive educational kiosk that teaches visitors about the building’s sustainable systems.
Innovation Behind the Scenes
Delivering these systems required extensive collaboration and creative problem-solving. With limited space above ceilings, a confined crawl space, and complex architectural features, traditional installation methods weren’t always possible. One significant challenge involved installing 20 geothermal heat pumps beneath the building. Recognizing that the equipment couldn’t safely fit through the completed access openings, MTech worked with the project team to install and protect the units before the overhead deck was constructed.
Throughout construction, proactive planning and close coordination helped the team navigate these challenges while completing more than 23,000 worker hours without a reported injury.
Recognizing Construction Excellence
ABC’s Excellence in Construction Awards celebrate exceptional projects and the teams behind them. Entries are evaluated through a competitive judging process that considers project management, innovation, quality, safety, and the ability to overcome unique challenges.
We’re proud to receive this recognition and grateful to the team members and project partners whose expertise, craftsmanship, and collaboration helped bring this one-of-a-kind community resource to life.
